A TRADITION
CENTURIES OLD
The centuries-old tradition for ironworking that distinguishes our valley has enabled the many Premanese artisans to achieve levels of excellence over time. Even today, our products are made entirely at Premana, using technologically advanced processes, but with the craftsmanship that comes from more than 160 years of experience in the field of professional and kitchen cutlery.
THE STORY.
Sanelli finds its origins at Premana, a town near Lake Como, known since ancient times for ironworking and the production of cutting articles.
In 1864, A. Sanelli, returns to the village, having learned his trade in a workshop in Venice and practiced it on a floating barge in Verona. Still young and enterprising, he salvaged an old pipeline under the village, thus restarting an ancient water wheel to drive hammers in the old structures of a smelting furnace.
From here a real company was born, the first in the village, from which blades and cutting articles came out, already then marketed throughout Italy.
To attest to the quality of the products comes, in 1881 a diploma with a gold medal at the National Exhibition in Milan and three years later a similar recognition at the one in Turin.
The profession was continued by his son Silvio, born May 10, 1892. Of Silvio's eight children, four continued the knife-making business: Mario (1923-1977), Orlando (1926-2007), Sereno (1927-2012) and Danilo born in 1935.
Currently, the board of directors consists of one member from each family, and the current president is Antonio Sanelli.
In the old workshop on Via Sanelli at Premana, the old hammers and ovens for tempering knives are still standing.
Today the company is known worldwide for the revolutionary results achieved with its new types of knives: following a strict marketing approach, the staff Sanelli studied the needs of professional knife users and created the "green knives" of the line Premana Professional , the first knives with ergonomic handles patented in 1985.
The company's 160 years of experience in cutlery production combined with constant research into the application of new materials and the solution of Ergonomics, Hygiene and Safety problems now place Sanelli S.r.l. at the forefront of the industry.

NSF International
National Science Foundation (NSF), is an American certification body that verifies and certifies products to meet precise public health and safety standards. The awarding of the prestigious NSF certification fully guarantees, and with worldwide validity that all marked products have passed the very stringent U.S. food contact standards. For the award of NSF certification, Sanelli has adhered to a program involving testing, trials and audits, demonstrating the ability to manufacture products in accordance with recognized standards in relation to materials, design, and product construction process.
ISO 22000
The standard UNI EN ISO 22000 is applied on a voluntary basis by food business operators on food safety and hazard analysis and critical point control (HACCP). This standard can be adopted by all operators in the food chain, not only directly involved in the food production process, but also indirectly involved. It serves as a reference point for operators, enabling the implementation of EU regulations on food hygiene and safety.
ISO 9001
ISO 9001:2015 certification is the international standard for Quality Management Systems. It gives the company that achieves it added value in terms of continuous improvement of its performance, offering customers and suppliers the assurance that they are relying on a solid and efficient company.
